Let me give you the copper inclusion story and a little drama… That’s a picture of my favorite piece in the New Collectors Series. It wasn’t the catalyst for the inclusions of copper in much of my mixed media work, but it’s definitely one I really appreciate for its timeliness on a spiritual level. It’s titled Wheat or Tare? And reminds us that we must choose, this day, whom we will serve.
So why copper? Well, it’s a bit of an odd story, but I came across a verse in Scripture that gave me pause.
“For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver, and for wood brass, and for stones iron: I will also make thy officers peace, and thine exactors righteousness.” Isaiah 60:17 (ESV)
According to Strong’s, brass, H5178 can also be translated as copper or bronze. So, the Lord will give us gold for copper. Therefore, I’m giving collectors gold when I’m adding copper to my pieces. That’s how my mind works.
I started that process before they said they were removing the penny from circulation because the copper it’s made with is worth more than the penny representing it.
Then Milton hit. And it hit my family pretty hard. Our house was flooded and we lost pretty near everything inside. Maybe I will write another post about that experience.
But, the flood opened up an opportunity to remodel the kitchen since all the bottom cabinets had to be disposed of (it was “poop water” that entered because there’s a station at the end of my road that malfunctioned).
My ex-husband was being employed by my Father to see and even set the table in the presence of my enemies. So, in his narcissistic glory he tried to impress me with a sink. The sink is made of copper.
Jesus has given me copper for all the wood antiques I had that were lost in this tragedy. And He used my ex-husband to deliver it and foot the bill.
You could get upset about my commentary on my ex-husband, but it’s not slander when it’s true. And since he disappeared, with the child support (again) in February, I highly doubt he’ll ever read this. He thought he was leaving us in the lurch but Jesus always takes care of His.
